He was elected to Winnipeg City Council for the River Heights - Fort Garry ward in a by-election on March 17, 2009.〔("Voters choose Orlikow" ). However, voter turnout was only 22%. In the 2014 elections he was again re-elected, winning 55% of the votes, this time beating Taz Stuart.
